Dark Knight on a Dark Night

So, this movie is AWESOME. It’s really long (156 minutes) but they keep throwing twists and turns at you and the special effects and performances are amazing! This is the first feature in 30 or so years to use Imax film (70mm as opposed to 35mm) which they used for segments like the outside cityscapes. Gorgeous.

I attended the midnight screening with a large group of people, mostly friends of my friends I didn’t know. We went to the Arclight, an incredible theater in Hollywood with a huge screening room called the Dome. A few of us had met first to watch Batman Begins and after a late dinner at Quiznos, we headed to the theater. On the way there, who should be driving next to us but Jeff Goldblum, of Jurassic Park and Independence Day fame (sidebar: Independence Day… BME?) We really wanted to ask him if he had any grey poupon but he seemed engrossed in some work in the back of his sedan, so we left him alone.

We arrived at the theater an hour early and perused the displays of costumes from Batman and Mamma Mia. I stepped back from the Batman display and bumped into the guy behind me, who was snapping an iphone picture of the Joker’s costume (sidebar: Heath Ledger is unreal in this movie). I turned around to apologize. It was Chris Kattan. So after 4 or 5 days of no celeb spottings, I had two in 20 minutes!

The movie, as I mentioned, was fantastic. Minor spoiler alert: the car BECOMES a bike. Holy sh*t. And I was overwhelmed once again by the combination of Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman in one movie. So…much…wisdom… Drove home and was disappointed to realize that my car does not become a bike.
